SHADOWS & LIGHT

Thoughts dancing all over the place
You know when a ship rolls
And the porthole is open
On a sunny day

This thing happens with the sun and the water
Crazy patterns dancing off the bulkhead and overhead
Shadows and light going crazy
Some coming from above

Some bouncing up and in off the water
As I roll in the rack
The rocking and rolling
I think it is a primal thing

Being rocked like that…
Listening to the wind and waves
Occasional spray flying in
Smoke flying out

It goes back to the cradle
Sound, motion and thoughts running together
Anyway
That is my guess

Shadows and light
Still bouncing off those walls
Twenty-five years later
Gawd, that is a beautiful dress

Dad you have these weird lines
They crinkle up at the corners of your eyes
When you laugh
“That would be that dress”

I think it is a primal thing
Being rocked like that
Anyway
That is my guess

Shadows and light
Sound, motion and thoughts
Running together
Still bouncing off these walls

Twenty-five years later
