The boy laid his head
Upon the oversized white pillow
His eyes were clouded with trouble
My heart went out to him
As I pulled up the covers
Too much for such a young boy
I thought
We made small talk
Until it was time to put the day to rest

Sleep well
I will
Do you always
You never have trouble sleeping?
Not since that trick you taught me
The pause hung in the dim room

What trick did I teach you?
To listen to my breath
Another pause hung in the young night
Before I gave him a small kiss
Clicked out the light
And felt a smile spreading across my face
As I left the room
