COLOR

After the darkness

Of the night

And after the steel blue and gray, predawn

She came

She came with color and light

Color

And wind

Breezes

Drafts

Occasional cool gusts

All else

Pushed outside

Away

As I floated and drifted

Before the light and the day

She came in color

Maroon

With darker streaks

Of deep red earth

Black and white near the top

For when the day will turn

Again to night

Yellow and orange

For the heat of the sun

She came in color

Dark blue

For the sky

And ocean

And of course, red

Blood red

For the heart that she holds

In the palm of her hand

She came in color

With wind

After the steel blue and gray

Predawn
