THE EMPTY MASON JAR

The child walks down the city street
Carrying a crystal clear
Clean
Empty
Mason jar
She glances anxiously from side to side
The street becomes a road
A country road
A country dirt road
She slows her stride
Bending occasionally
Shoots of grass appear in the road
More and more
Finally
The road disappears
A meadow appears
She sits now and again
During her walk
Bending her head to the wildflowers
Inhaling deeply
Before rising
To continue on her way
She heard it before she saw it
A great wild river
With frothing white water
With pools and eddies along the bank
She jumps out to a rock
Sitting
Examining minnows in the crystal clear water
She fastens the lid of the mason jar closed
Placing it at her side
Before closing her eyes
Laying back
Smiling
The roar of the whitewater
Mixing with the psithurism
Both filling her ears
Filling her heart
Filling her soul
And there she stayed
With her empty
Full
Mason jar
At her side
Forever
Delightfully empty
And fulfilled ~
