THE KNOWLEDGE OF CHANCE

Her hand brushes over my brow

My lips softly touch the small shallow indentation in the middle of her chest

It was not real

We both knew

“Nothing in life is real,

I knew from the moment I saw you

I had to have you,

I had to let you have me.

All of me,

The real me.”

That is what she said.

So here we are

Her hand brushing my brow

Points tenderly touching my flushed cheek

I will admit it,

I am frightened.

Frightened of allowing myself to love this much

My hands gently opened

Now here I be

Falling free

Of everything

It is as I knew it would be

Warm and safe

A mother’s womb

Who is sobbing?

She or me

Or is that laughter?

“Chance?”

Her hand begins again to brush my brow

Lips once again

Touch the small shallow indentation in the middle of her chest

The sound never heard

The sight never seen

The experience never experienced

All bear names

All wait

Some forever

Some for naught

Not all

Not us

That is where and how we found ourselves

Looking out from the dream within a dream

Realizing then

It is not dream at all

We stood speechless looking at our names

As realization came crashing down upon our shoulders

Buckling our knees

Hand in hand

We fell

As one

That is where and how we found ourselves

Alone

Together

Totally by Chance
